My name is Evelyn Martinez, @xicanayork,
I am a Queer Xicana, born and raised in the Bronx.
I am a Freelance Photographer/Creative Director based in New York City. I specialize in portraiture, lifestyle, documentary and commercial photography. I graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Minor in Latina/o Studies.
My life's work focuses on creating space to feel seen, to be heard, to be cared for and to be honored. My photography primarily tells the stories of womxn of color whether that's through a collection of images for commercial photography or an intimate portrait session between a mother and her child.
I began my photography journey at the end of 2017 with a passion project called 100 Womxn of Color.
While working part-time at a non-profit, I taught myself the creative and technical aspects of a craft I did not know; photography. I executed a thoughtful and powerful photo series of more than 100 womxn of color in NYC within 6 months. This project catapulted me into my photography career and the rest is herstory.
My work has been featured on Getty Images , Telemundo, Remezcla, HipLatina, The Glam Femme, Edible Bronx, Adobe Spark, and most recently on Latino Rebel's Radio for a conversation on Getty Images' Nosotros Collection and the importance of this initiative to represent nuanced stories of Latinx communities.

It is crucial to support womxn of color and femmes of color. It is not enough to give us visibility. When you hire us, when you pay for our labor, you create opportunities for us to bring tangible change and growth to our communities.
